Wedding of Matt and Hayley. 1st August 2008 Harrogate

Thursday 31st July 2008 saw Dee and I heading south to Harrogate to photograph on Friday 1st August Matt and Hayley's wedding.

The weather was perfect with a mix of sunshine and atmospheric moody skies, which I found really interesting. The wedding was great fun and we both throughly enjoyed working with Matt and Hayley who are a great couple. The roast hog in the evening was superb and the warm evening sunshine at Harrogate Cricket Club gave a really soft gentle light.

Throughly enjoyed our days photography there as well as finding some really interesting guests who we were delighted to be able to photograph. A gallery from Matt and Hayley's wedding can be found at Ron Walsh Photography.

Shortlisted for Landscape Photographer of the Year 2008

News just arrived today 22nd July 2008 that one of my landscape entries has been shortlisted for the Landscape Photographer of the Year Award 2008.
During a recent chat with Mark Cargill, Mark asked me if I had put in my entries for The Take a View Competition as they were closing a couple of days later. I had considered putting in a few entries but had just not got round to sorting them out, so on the evening that the competition was closing I sat down and worked on my five entires getting the last one uploaded about an hour before the deadline. To say that I'm pleased at being shortlisted is an understatement considering the reputation this competition has, for me to be selected in this way is an achievement in itself, anything else would just be a fantastic bonus. The successful image can be viewed at Ron Walsh Photography Landscape Galleries. You will find it in Gallery 6 and it shows the rows of stitches in a newly prepared potato field in Fife which I visited one Sunday evening a couple of months ago.

March 2008

March was by and large a normal month with the weather steadily improving in Perthsire and Spring on its way. However Dee and I were getting ready for a holiday that we had planned for some time, on the 22nd March we headed off to Glasgow to fly out to Sri Lanka for two weeks. This was the first time that we had been to Sri Lanka and we both just fell in love with the place. Our hotel was located in a coastal area called Wadduwa which is south of Colombo.
Our time was divided between the hotel and travelling, we had a day in Colombo for some photography and then a couple of days later headed off to the Udawalawe National Park for a safari to photograph wild elephants. This really was a very special day getting so close to just so many wild elephants, they are now well and truely established as Dee's favourite animal. The journey back to Wadduwa from the Udawalawe National Park allowed us to call into the Turtle Conservation Project which is just south of Wadduwa on the coast. The project pays local fishermen to bring in the turtle eggs instead of selling them to restaurants, the eggs are then hatched and the yourg turtles raised to the stage of being released into the sea.
The last couple of days of March were then spent back at the hotel, though to be honest we were so relieved to arrive back safely at our hotel after our trip as we were both convinced our driver had a death wish when he was behind the wheel.

February 2008

February was by and large a bit less hectic than January, though with images to work on and several potential clients to visit regarding forthcoming weddings in Perthshire and Fife for 2008 there was still plenty to do.
The Wedding Fair at Caird Hall in Dundee on 8th February was a useful day out with two halls full of exhibitors. Similarly, the Wedding Fair at Rothes Halls in Glenrothes on 24th February proved to be a busy event.
Along with a couple of trips down to England and a few days spent in Milan this pretty much saw the end of February.

An update on the year so far: January 2008

Despite the fact that it is already July and I have just started blogging I think it would be useful to give a quick overview for some of the year to date.

October and November 2007 saw me working on the setting up of my new web site Ron Walsh Photography.

Having finished off 2007 photographing some weddings in West Cumbria with my old schoolfriend Steve Lavery who has been a pro photographer for some fifteen years, it was soon time to turn my attention to 2008. January 2008 saw a number of things happening.
Firstly, were some late Christmas presents to myself, these being a new Canon L Series 20-70mm lens and a Canon L Series 70-200mm lens for use with my Canon 5D. Having decided on this investment I also felt it was time to upgrade my monitor for clients to view their images on, so the next new piece of kit was a 24" Eizo ColorEdge CE240W monitor.
Next up was the SWPP & BPPA Convention at the Novotel in London. Throughly enjoyed the two days there especially the Doug Gordon lecture.
January 21st was the wedding date for Liz and Al at Kinnaird Estate. The Kinnaird Estate is a fantastic venue in the heart of Perthshire. Snow was forecast but fortunately it held off for the afternoon long enough to complete the photography. Liz was determined to carry on with the photography outdoors despite that fact that it was 1 degree C. Whenever she wasn't being photographed she was huddled inside my down jacket trying to warm up. Additional images from Liz and Al's wedding day at Kinnaird can be seen on my web site;
Ron Walsh Photography Home, Ron Walsh Photography Profile and the Ron Walsh Photography Wedding Gallery pages which are hosted by The Image File.
